The Reading Chess Club members participated in the Queen City Classic Chess Tournament at Paul Brown Stadium. The team of RMS sixth graders placed 5th out of 15 teams. RMS Chess Club members who competed in the 7th through 9th-grade division also placed 5th out of 17 teams for their team score. The Reading High School players competing in the 10th through 12th-grade division brought home a first-place team trophy out of six schools.
The Queen City Classic Chess program began with a vision to create an opportunity for as many children as possible to play chess in a healthy environment and has become one of the largest scholastic chess tournaments in the Midwest, selling out at 700 players each year.
The tournament is part of the Cris Collinsworth ProScan Fund, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in Cincinnati.
