A Cincinnati Public Schools spokesperson released the following statement Wednesday:
“At the August 3 school board meeting, the administration recommended that students start the first five weeks of the school year under the distance learning model. This recommendation also included putting athletics on pause. We understand students and parents are disappointed. We have to make some tough decisions to prioritize the health and safety of our students and staff. District leaders fully understand that sports and participation in individual and team-related activities are an important aspect of the school experience and development of students.”
According to data on the district’s website, there have been 13 reported cases of student athletes contracting COVID-19 in the district since the start of summer.
