Facing a shortage, Columbus City Schools raises substitute teacher pay

Columbus Dispatch |

To help recruit and retain them, Columbus will soon pay subs at rates among the highest in the central Ohio area. General substitutes will earn $126 daily, or $18 hourly, for their first 60 days, and $220 daily, or $31 hourly, for any days that follow.

Meanwhile, substitutes with teaching licenses will be paid $140 daily, or $20 hourly, for their first 60 days, and $238 daily, or $34 hourly, for any days that follow. This includes retired teachers.

After 60 days, all will become eligible for employment benefits, such as paid sick leave and health and life insurance.
