Record 6,500 new coronavirus cases reported in Ohio schools this week

The previous record increase was on Dec. 17 when ODH reported 5,281 new cases. Ohio schools have reported 44,216 cases since this school year began.

Thursday’s data reflects case counts through last Sunday, when local health departments report school numbers to the state.

27,125 (61%) of Ohio’s school cases are students and 17,091 (39%) are staff members, which include teachers, administrators, coaches and support staff.

The map incorporates multiple information sources to build an understanding of the Education Delivery Models that Ohio districts are using for the start of School Year 2020-2021 as of January 14th, 2021. Districts have not confirmed the accuracy of these data in all cases, and districts remain the best source of up-to-date information on their respective reopening plans.

Definitions for this data compilation are the following:

5-Day In-Person: All students have the option of in-person instruction, even if schedules are somewhat adjusted.

Fully Remote: All students to receive only remote education, which may be teacher-led or student-led.

Hybrid: A mix of in-person and remote education, noting some grade levels may be entirely in-person or entirely remote.
