This “learning pod” at the Cleveland nonprofit Esperanza, Inc. is fulfilling an important need for a small number of Hispanic Cleveland Metropolitan School District students during the pandemic: A safe place, with reliable Internet, and staff poised to help at a moment’s notice (in English or Spanish).
Cleveland learning pods help ESL learners during remote learning, but space, funding are limited — The Land
Almost 800 CMSD students go to one of 24 Cleveland learning pods on a daily basis to do their virtual-only classwork. These students are the ones who are struggling the most with online-only work: homeless students, poor students and English-language learners.
